In the fashion world Virgil Abloh is widely known and highly regarded, he will not be a recognisable name in the goalkeeper world…but he may be now!
Abloh is an architect, designer and creative director for Kanye West and has recently started his artistic director of menswear gig over at Louis Vuitton; the designer is still keeping busy with his Off-White™ label.
Taking to social media over the weekend, Abloh revealed a set of custom Off-White™ x Nike Goalkeeper Mercurial Touch gloves, the first-ever goalkeeper gloves created in collaboration between the duo. The gloves were created and sent to England goalkeepers Joe Hart of West Ham United and Jordan Pickford of Everton.
The mostly white gloves have been decorated with orange cuffs and Off-White™’s signature design elements from a “LOGO” over the top of the hand, an X-covered palm, and stamp-text branding along the first finger. In addition to the printed branding, the gloves also feature handwritten elements such as “HART” and “PICKFORD” along with their player number and the year. Next to the gloves, a small note confirming the name and hand size of the goalkeeper can be seen.
The Goalkeeper world is buzzing with Nike Mercurial Touch fever with lots of speculation over colourways, price, tech spec etc….the gloves still are not available to purchase anywhere in the world yet! could these stunning Off-White™ gloves be a a possible World Cup edition. It is also not known yet if Joe Hart or Jordan Pickford will wear the gloves.
